Rustavi Azot, a group company of Indorama Corporation, Singapore to construct “First Light” — Georgia’s First and Largest Utility-Scale 24 MWp Solar Power Plant for captive consumption.
Rustavi Azot, a group company of Indorama Corporation, one of the largest producers of fertilizers and industrial chemical products in the Caucasus region, is set to construct “First Light”, a 24 MWp on-site solar power plant — the first and largest utility-scale solar installation in Georgia designed exclusively for captive consumption.
Spanning across 29 hectares and featuring over 34,000 high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, the project represents a major milestone in Georgia’s energy transition and Indorama’s long-term commitment to sustainable industrial development. Once operational, the facility will directly supply clean power to Rustavi Azot’s production units, meeting a significant portion of its electricity demand and reducing dependence on the national grid. First Light is expected to Potentially reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 2,893 tons annually in JSC Rustavi Azot plant in Georgia.
By consuming all generated energy on-site through zero-export control, Rustavi Azot enhances its energy independence, optimising transmission losses, mitigates exposure to market volatility, and strengthens operational resilience for its continuous production processes. The system is designed for future integration of battery storage to further support energy stability and peak load management.
“The First Light project reflects our vision to operate responsibly, efficiently, and sustainably,” said Mr. Jay Jajoo, General Director of Rustavi Azot. “It reinforces our commitment to clean industrial growth in Georgia and demonstrates how Indorama continues to invest in long-term, sustainable solutions across our global operations.”
This landmark initiative underscores Indorama Corporation’s global strategy to reduce its environmental footprint and promote renewable energy adoption across its production sites, aligning with international best practices in responsible manufacturing.
The solar power plant is being developed and constructed by ASTORIOS Holding Inc., a U.S.-based renewable energy technology and EPC provider. ASTORIOS is delivering a turnkey solution integrating advanced photovoltaic modules, zero-export controls, and automated monitoring systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
“First Light embodies everything ASTORIOS stands for: innovation, engineering discipline, and impact,” said Lela Kurtanidze, Chief Executive Officer of ASTORIOS Holding Inc. “It’s not just a power plant; it’s an engineered ecosystem — clean power, delivered exactly where it’s needed, with zero-export precision and world-class technology.”
