Nitric acid is the main raw material for production of most nitrogen chemical products. 70-80% of nitric acid is used to produce mineral fertilizers — ammonium nitrate, calcium and potassium nitrate, nitro phos fertilizers and etc. Besides production of mineral fertilizers, nitric acid is also used for militarily purposes to obtain explosives and rocket fuel. Nitric acid is widely used in nonferrous metallurgy, also to obtain sulfuric acid on nitric method, in refining of precious metals, in organic synthesis, in production of dyes and etc.
