In Georgia, Sunflower crop  is basically grown in Kakheti at Iori Plateau – in the regions of Dedophlistskaro, Signagi,Gurjaani and Sagarejo ,in the zone of deflation soils (erosion by wind),so in these condition stubble plowing is appropriate.

Sunflower is cold and drought resistance plant. It has a rod root system, so it uses water and other nutrient elements form deeper layers of soil.

In Georgia area under sunflower crops is about 22 thousand hectare according of different years.

Nitrogen deficiency delays growing of sunflower and it has light color, also delays development of flower head.  Nitrogen overdosing causes decreasing of oil content in the plant.

Sunflowers are heavy feeders, so the soils need to be nutrient –rich with nitrogen from the period of flower head formation till end of flowering. It takes 2 times more nitrogen from soil than other grain crops.

With of organic fertilizers, calculating of nutrient content, sunflowers require 60 kilos of nitrogen fertilizers per hectare, so 176 kilos of ammonium nitric or 285kilos ammonium sulfate of physical weight should be applied for one hectare of area.

Without of organic fertilizers, calculating of nutrient content, sunflowers require 90 kilos of nitrogen fertilizers per hectare, so 264 kilos of ammonium nitric or 430 kilos ammonium sulfate of physical weight should be applied for one hectare of area.

Farmers can take  into account  these recommendations when fertilizing their farms, but  if they think that the  harvest is less than they expected, they have to take a simple of the soil for laboratory researches after that they can  use fertilizers according the laboratory recommendations.
